REMOTE SERVICE SETTINGS

Purpose

Use the RemoteServiceName or RemoteServicePort parameter to set the TCP/IP port for client connections

Syntax

<port_setting> ::=
     RemoteServiceName = <string>
   | RemoteServicePort = <integer>

Semantics

These two parameters provide the ability to override either the TCP/IP service name or the TCP/IP port number used to listen for client database connection requests. Set one of the parameters, not both.

The RemoteServiceName is checked first for a matching entry in the services file. If there is a match, the port number specified in the services file is used.If there is no match, then the installation default, port 3050, is used. If both RemoteServiceName and RemoteServicePort are specified, the former takes precedence.

Note: If a port number is provided in the client's TCP/IP connection string, it will always take precedence over RemoteServicePort.

The default value for the RemoteServiceName parameter is gds_db and for the RemoteServicePort 3050.

Examples

RemoteServiceName = fb_srvc
RemoteServicePort = 1234
